We had the furore over Midsommer Murders being an 'all white' cast and since then have seen ladies in saris chatting on the village green, an Asian GP, I think I saw a black postman in one episode and there was definitely a Chinese character.
It has brought a whole new fun aspect to the series - spot the token ethnic.

Now the Beeb seems to have turned its attentions to the disabled, with Liz Carr in Silent Witness and an actress whose name I can't find playing the daughter of Nicholas Lyndhurst's character in New Tricks.

I particularly like Liz Carr - she is a great, feisty comedian and her character in SW is capable, intelligent and likeable.

But I can't help the uneasy feeling that the producers are casting in order to prevent an outcry about the lack of disabled people in dramas.

What do you think?

Mamya, in Midsommer Murders it is definitely token casting.

Oh righto, had not realised that they have admitted to that since the remarks.

There should only need to be the same proportion of minorities as there are in the country as a whole. So if there was a cast of say only 5, then you shouldn't need any.
i would keep the new girl in New Trick and get rid of Nicholas Lyndhurst, i like him usually but he seems so out of place in this.
I always wondered why the less-than saintly Weaver intermittently carried a stick in ER.

People at the time said it was Life imitating Art and the stick represented her warped personaility - a bit like the hump in Richard III
Yeah but if it is someone dying in P9lice custody in Midsomer,
they have to be black dont they ?

or carry a chair leg

Imean some of it has to relate to our daily lives
I am sure many villages such as "Midsommer" exist with only white people living there. Its all gone too far IMO.

I don't think a black person has ever been arrested in MM.
