A bit close to home as it was on an open Q&A site. We're lucky on here as the site is very well monitored. Should all sites enjoy the same amount of editing we have on here or is it a case of 'if you can't stand the heat' ?

I've found that admin on sites is very helpful when there is a problem, especially with children. We had a problem a few years ago with my youngest son on a site aimed at 9 -11 year olds, he had his account hacked and nasty things put up ( turned ut by one of his 'real' friends as a joke). he told me straight away and I contacted the admin -a company in Vancouver and they were extremely helpful, got the problem solved and gave him a few extra 'credits' . They then kept me informed by email on the outcome of the investigation. Parents have to take SOME responsibility.

This has been posted twice now. I see no evidence that anyone's opinion has been censorred by the mods or Ed. The treatment is just right and accusations that it is leftwing or rightwing are not justified.

As much as parents have to take some responsibility, whether they can or not depends on two things - firstly they have to find out, and secondly they have to be able to do something about it. I was able to keep, for the most part, how I was feeling from my parents for ages. They could have pushed and probed for ages and got nowhere, although in part things were helped by being actually separated for much of the year.
And even if they had found out, fact is that I know my way round the internet and computers far better than either of my parents put together. Short of pulling the plug on the whole thing, which would have cut my parents off as well, they wouldn't have been able to stop me going where I wanted if I was determined enough. There's a story that one mother tried to stop her son going on the internet by deleting the browser icon rather than the program itself! While that's probably at the extreme lower end of parents' ability to use the internet, in some ways my parents aren't all that much better.
So it comes down to two problems: that the parents may not have found out, or been able to, and that even if they had found out they may not have been able to do much about it. In both cases the problem is the bullying itself.

even on AB, in recent times, a couple of users who have acknowledged that they are teenage women have immediately come in for an inordinate amount of personal scrutiny, with other users openly accusing them of lying about who they are (a problem those who claim to be elderly men, for instance, never face).
This falls well short of bullying but I think it's harassment; and it shows how internet sharks seem peculiarly drawn to circle round young women, even on an open site like this.

i notice the girl in this instance kind of fronted them out saying - 'ohh how would you feel if i did kill myself eh, eh?' as though she felt they'd soon shut up if she actually did do it
and her message about not wanting to die, wanting to be saved
it makes me wonder if she did it to 'show them' to teach them a lesson - thought it would shock them and make them feel bad and guilty etc - and had meant to be found in time, but it went wrong.
