Can you give us the make/model of the adapter. I guess this is to convert USB from your laptop to parallel for your Epson 440 printer ?

This type of cable is not usually OS-Specific and would not require drivers. Are you trying to connect a USB printer to a PC Parallel port and if so, is it your PC's Operating system that will not run a USB device i.e. an early version of 98 or 95 even. Refer to this page for installation instructions

Or as BillyNoMates asked is it a Parallel printer to a USB port on your laptop, in which case, as long as the printer drivers are installed there shouldn't be a problem.
