The hatred is passed on continually from stupid parents to vulnerable children who in turn then become bigoted parents themselves. A friend visiting Belfast several years ago, told me he heard a young (protestant) mother admonishing her child for playing in a puddle of dirty water, she said "Come away, there are wee popes in there!"
sometimes I don't think these idiots know what they are fighting for. How could some small children know (I know it is inbred what their mothers and fathers said) and so it goes on and on and on.
sorry khandro we clashed.
I just don't understand it - my sympathies are with the police, once again caught in the middle.
unfortunately...................there are many people/families in NI who have very long memories :(
It’s strange but Tony Blair led me to believe that all the hatred, bad feeling and violence was over following the 1998 Good Friday Agreement. Or did I misunderstand him?
Blair wasn't a miracle worker. He helped set up political institutions which allowed various factions to get their snouts in the trough but even he couldn't change what is in a lot of peoples hearts.
No one ever claimed the 1998 Belfast Agreement meant an automatic end to the violence. The worst atrocity of the troubles- in Omagh 15 years ago next week - occurred shortly after it was signed.
Yes quite right both. It simply allowed for the release from prison of murderers and terrorists and allowed some of them to join government.
Ask anyone, however, for their alternative and they have no constructive suggestion to make. The authors of Omagh etc are also numbered amongst the opponents of progress and are not the 'terrorists in government' spoken of. Just because N Ireland has not magically transformed itself after decades of strife into sleepy West Sussex is no reason at all to damn the efforts of those on all sides whose efforts have led to a situation while not perfect would have been unthinkable nonetheless even 20 years ago.
