Plant Identification

Hi All

We have been given a grass plant but don't know what it is. This is a real long shot as I can't take a picture of the plant so will have to describe it to you:

The grass is green/black and apparently it grows small violet flowers then they turn into ? berries.

Sorry it's a big vague.

It sounds like 'Black Mondo Grass' (ophiopogon planiscarpus) var 'nigressens'

I meant to add that, the above plant is not a 'true grass' but a grass-like plant related to the lily family.
