Rossett Acre school in Harrogate have given parents the option to allow their 4/5 year old girls to wear jogging bottoms rather than skirts/pinafore dresses to school due to the amount of physical activities the kids engage in.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/education/10167327/School-criticised-for-allowing-children-to-wear-jogging-bottoms.html

Is this a good idea or a lowering or standards.

After reading the article, it seems pretty reasonable to me.

By the way - this is pretty funny. The Telegraph accurately reports:

"School criticised for allowing children to wear jogging bottoms"

The Daily Mail however, has:

"Primary school orders girls to wear 'Vicky Pollard'-style jogging bottoms instead of skirts"

Love it...

ummm

It's a fact of female life that I did not know about...
lol...do you remember sitting in the back of car when you were little wearing shorts, boiling hot, leather seats...

A bit like that...
Not sensible at all. Children need to learn from an early age there are rules and a need to conform in certain circumstances.

The big problem is that it wont stop with 4/5 year olds and we need to up our game on the world stage.
Times change, things move on.

My uncle is a sheep farmer and still works in a suit (and wellies)

Why? What is the point in that?
Ummm, we weren't all dragged around in a leather clad stretch limo in our youth. Our car had cloth seats and windows that we even had to open ourselves.
Agree about children conforming to rules, but some school uniform rules are unnecessary and completely stupid. Shirts and ties for instance and bloomin' horrible school uniform trousers. Most sensible schools have made polo shirts their uniform and that is sensible. Senior girls in crotch length skirts is not on in my opinion, which is why I suggest sensible slacks for both sexes.

Littlies in jogging trousers is fine.
My legs don't stick together ummmm ;o)

I am wearing a full length cotton kimono at the moment with longish sleeves and it is the most comfortable garment I can think of is this weather.
Oh no, not in Harrogate, please - the snobs have a reputation to uphold
Octavius - you must be younger than me. All the cars when I was little had leather seats :-)

Loftie...you must wear big pants ;-)
Yep! Ruddy great bloomers ;o)
seems pretty sensible to me
Probably ummmm, dad had to drive as well, we didn't have chauffers.
your legs stick together,,,,,,,,,,,,not if we bathe/shower regularly. and use a wee bit of talc, :) :)
Yeah...talc will last a whole school day.
I thought schools generally allowed a choice of school skirt or school trousers for girls anyway? No real need for jogging bottoms.
Not all achools. The girls had to wear skirts/pinnies at my sons school.
Seems perfectly acceptable and eminently sensible to me for toddlers, boys and girls, to be wear jogging bottoms. Interesting how the spin changes the story though :)
