Yes to all
Personally I would Not buy anything at this time with Windows 8 which appears to have lots of problems. Look around and pick-up a bargain by opting for a machine that is loaded with Windows 7.

Alternatively, wait until later this year when Windows 8.1 is released and Microsoft has corrected lots of issues.

People who have W8 are likely to be given a free up-date in August and W8.1 should hit the shops in October.

If you don't want to play the latest games, a decent laptop can be bought for £250-300. Some good refurbished ones with a years warranty on ebay with Windows 7 for that price.
There must be something seriously wrong with Windows 8.

Earlier I suggested that there was likely to be lots of bargains if one opted for W7. I have been browsing the Net and it seems to be that W7 items are holding their retail value and W8 laptops are being substantially reduced in price.

What are all these problems with W8? I don't have any.
bibblebub....I think it was John McEnroe who said to a Tennis Umpire what I now say to you......."You must be joking". :-)

In fact, I will go as far as saying that you are the first person I have encountered who appears to be happy with Windows 8.

I have just been corrected by my 'better half'.

Cheers....Al.
I've been using W8 on both my netbook and my desktop since December and much prefer it to W7.
I have downloaded the new W8.1 in beta form and find it good.

I wouldn't go back to W7
@bibblebub&hc4361.....Unless someone comes to my rescue, I feel that I have lost this one. Lol :-)

Loads much faster; uses less resources; intuitive; safer; much easier file backup; easier to fix; easier to sync; and most of it is very familiar to W7 users - Windows Explorer, for example.

Half an hour with it and you'll be fine.
Well I am here Al, and confirm that I bought a Lenova laptop with W.8 and I hated it!! I had problems with it in that it couldn't install updates. (My question 'Windows 8 Updates' posted on
oops! 4th.May) I did give it a fair trial, I had it about two weeks but found it was too fast, among other things, everything seemed to go whizzing by! I returned it to Amazon who refunded me without question, so there must have been something wrong with it. I bought an Acer Aspire with windows7 and I love it, it is very like XP but with extra features of course so I am a happy bunny. -rosy
Cheers rosyposy....Sorry to hear about the problem you had with a Lenovo.
It must have been Windows 8 because I have a Lenovo Laptop with W7 and do Not get any problems. They are good machines; as are Acers.

Sorry Animals4me having digressed in your thread. My advice to you at the moment is to hang onto your XP loaded desktop for a further month or so; when we shall then know a bit more about Windows 8.1

I have come across two Windows 8 machines with faulty installs in the repair shop where I work and one on this site. As has been already said above, W8 is much more efficient that any previous OS from Microsoft.
The main problem seems to be that it looks different to previous OSs and people don't like change. It does everything XP or 7 did, only more efficiently.
