Do you want to run that by me again Alba, have you been at the sherry?
Question Author
lol no, not a drop of anything! Yet.

A pre-pay electric meter, one of them things where you have a key (?) and take it to a pay-point to put money on it and then insert it into your meter when you get home

(Be blooming difficult otherwise, come to think of it!)
Yep, I get that bit and agree lugging meter to shop could be awkward....

I'm not getting the £5/£6 bit, do you buy £5 credit and get £6 or vice versa or something completely different????
you can top up what you like i think, i usually put £50 or £60 quid on a month
It's not the concept of a pre-pay meter that's difficult, it's the £5 and £6 comments that are odd!
I think Alba has passed out surrounded by bottles of Bucky.......well she said she hadn't touched a drop of sherry.............
I don;t think alba realised you could top up however much you liked, so if you had £8 on you you could put that on, i think (and apologies if im wrong), she though you had to top up in imcrements of a fiver so £5/£10 etc
no you silly silly albaq,
what you want to share is:

pre paid leccy is v v expensive
and so you pay to 'know where you are'
like pay a lot

so everyone on leccy meters should be trying to get onto the old system (much cheaper)

THAT is what you wanted to share.

I think you may be sharing also if you take over someone's key
and they are in debt to the leccy, then £5 may only give £4 leccy, as a proportion goes to relieve the debt
Think she thought had to be an increment of £5, but has found out you can top up by any amount

fluffpot, thank you. :-D

gawd, I hate the English language at times!

Peter, the 'old'system can cause problems for those who have been made redundant.
Sorry mcfluff. You weren't there when i started
but PP if you live in a rented house and the landlord has already put the meter system in, then you can't change it, and its not for want of trying trust me.......

I have spoken to my landlord about it and whilst he agrees i am an excellent tenant and that he would not be liable for any unpaid bill by myself he is not exposing himself to the risk
Gotcha....and apologies for the Bucky comment, I saw that you hadn't touched a drop of anything.....yet..... :-)

no apology needed Eccles xx
I would offer a cheese scone, but I remember you've found summat else to tickle the taste buds :-)

Pal of the young alba's moved into a rented property, soon found out the meter was rigged and promptly did something about sorting it out before his world collapsed.
McF you are being ***+ed

I am landlord and have no control over meters - tenants move out,
and I find a meter has been changed without my knowledge because the incumbent has got themselves into debt. - and then later done a runner etc

You should be changed back because you are right you are not responsible for elec consumed by your predecessor and neither is your landlord - and their payment history is nothing to do with your payment history. The slowness to change is due to the profits pre paid meters rake in.

OK, I was introduced to chorizo and olive scones......it was a flirtation....a minor dalliance, my heart remains true to a cheese scone.......and I will never refuse a savoury scone...
well neither the elec company or the landlord will let me

I think the only people who can change from pre-pay to a bog standard are those in bought properties.
Might be different in England and Wales.
>>>and take it to a pay-point to put money on it

There's no need to leave the house with one of these, Alba:
