I know this is a long shot but can anyone help me. I have a Ford Escort H reg cabriolet, and I can't start it because the immobiliser has gone and I don't know how to get it to start. The immobiliser is the type that you put a black key type thing into a socket on the dashboard which was put in by the previous owner, can I by pass it to start the engine. no one will help because of security but I am 100% genuine I just need my car.

This kind of aftermarket kit is usually hidden not far into the dash/footwell area. If you find it, the wires are likely to all be black but if you trace them back they will go to the wiring to the ignition switch (to break the ignition and start circuits) and if fitted well, will break the electronic fuel pump circuit.
This is not going to be a 10 minute job but can be done with the right tools, a multimeter and some long wires.
If you are really lucky and it's a simple device you can get the box out, crack it open and jam the relays into the 'on' mode !
