Connecting Mac Pro To Tv

Hi, Please help! i have a mac book pro, and want to connect it to my samsung smart tv. My ex had no trouble doing it, but we have split up and i am struggling, a lot! I have purchased a HDMI cable and a mini display port to HDMI adapter. When i connect them to the TV, the screen on my laptop flashes blue, showing it is connected, however when i look through all of the sorces on my TV i cannot locate the laptop screen. I am sure it is simple, but i cant work it out! please, please please help.

Thanks for your help! Much appreciated! got it working last night, but now it is not! I have a 15" brought new in Dec 2010. It is connected, but the F2 doesnt throw it on to the tv screen. I think i have done something to lappy! :(

i am rubbish at this kind of stuff! :(
