I should think they must, after all they must do SOMETHING to justify their astronomical charge. (The last I heard it was £1100!!!)
I doubt they'll check it, but if they think anything needs doing no doubt they'll let you know.
About 15 years ago when my parents had their house front block paved to allow parking – the builders did not bother contacting the local council to get permission for a dropped curb – they just did it.

The builders were not a cowboy outfit, and it appeared the way things were done. It would be a bit of a bummer if the council now refuse you a dropped curb.
Might save yourself £1,000 with a DIY job, if what johntywino says is correct.
Round here you have to put plans in to the council to be granted permission, then you have to use a council approved contractor to do the work. Costs a freakin fortune.
They dont check the drive, they just check your house is suitable for a drive (not on a sharp corner or something like that) .
They basically just remove a couple of edging bricks and replace them with smaller ones.

well I submitted plans for permission to do my drive, this was the only way I could apply to have kerb dropped. Now I have almost done my drive, it is not entirely like the plans I submitted due to pipes and more pipes pooping up, things had to be slightly changed. So now I have the drive, they must allow me the kerb, as I paid for the consent. I am just worrying now in case they 'nitpick' and say the drive isn't like the plans, and ask me to submit more plans to retain it. I hate the morons!!!. The kerb will be lowered by a council approved person from the list they gave me, I can choose my own, but has to have 1million liability insurance.
I'm sure it'll be fine phleb.
I honestly don't think they'll be at all interested in the drive Phleb. They're not the Planning Dept.
What's on the other side of the pavement doesn't affect the kerb unless you've raised or lowered the finished height substantially.... which you haven't.
