I have dark hair, nearly black. I have home died it over the years. I started using browns, which lightened it up a bit and then I started using black/reds. Then went back to the browns but the hair was too dark from the black element of the dark reds I had been using.
I then went to the hairdresser who gave me a bleach bath, and died my hair with a dark red (no black tones. I have since used intense red xxl live home colour.

Thing is I don't want red hair anymore. I want chocolatey brown with sandy highlights. Whats the best way of going about this :D Obviously being dark my hair has reddish tones but I dont want copper highlights. Im starting to go grey so id like to add the dirty blonde bits gradually.

There should be some punctuation in the above too. CBA, CBA!
Get a dye stripper and take as much out and then do in the colour of your choice.
Evil twin just go to the hairdressers and get them to do it... home dye jobs are never good enough when you want more than one colour.

I'm the same at the mo, want to go chocolately brown (not a problem) with dark red low lights (bigger problem). If I want the whole shabang then I know it's a hairdresser job for it to look how I'm thinking it.
NEVER strip your hair, its un-necessary with todays tints, unless you want platinum.

As you have already done it I suggest you tint a mahogany (4) with blonde foil hilites of (8-10).

My hairdresser said a bleach bath was better than stripping. Im not using that. I'm gonna go to the hairdresser Evil Twin, I just dont want to be doing what they want to do. I want to come out with something I want. They'll just chuck more red on it. I just wanna know what sort of things i should be asking for.
A new hairdresser if the one doing it doesn't do what you're bloody paying for! (Well that's what I'd ask for anyway) ;o)

Although that said I'm rather grateful to the nice hairdresser I used to go to who completely disregarded my request for dreads and a dye job ala the ice queen in lion, with and the wardrobe.... shame she moved...
