My apologies for the question but I'm genuinely interested.
Does anyone on here (Medical or otherwise) know a reason for the following.

Just when you're body starts to make it difficult for you to cut your own toenails they take it upon themselves to grow as hard as err nails.
I nearly took my eye out this morning!

Can anything be done? e.g. diet etc or is this just another one of those funny little jokes that life plays on you like the random hair that starts appearing where you've never had hair before.

And they're harder to reach, Chrisgel.
So I've been told. ;-)
Surely the forward thinking of having kids/grandkids is about to pay off.
You can get toenail softening creams and paint on liquids which work very well. I cut mine immediately after showering, which also works.
Yet another of life's little problems to overcome, chrisgel, but if you soak your feet in a foot bath for a while it will soften them up,but then you still have to overcome the reaching part of it,isn't getting older wonderful!!!
I think its because they grow more slowly. Soak your feet daily and remove dead skin and moisturise, moisturise, moisturise. You can file nails if they become to thick, you know file them over the nail, then buff them so they dont look like frosted glass. I see awful feet attached to equally awful legs, aging is not fun.
Chrisgel mine are so soft I can peel them off - I have never cut my toenails nor my fingernails in my life. Never seem to grow.
That's one benefit of having done Yoga for such a long time. I can reach them about ten times better than when I was in my twenties!!

Not fair really.. ☺

Sorry, I had to go out.
Thanks for the replies. I think I'll try the 7 Seas because I've heard other people mention it.
I also have a foot spa that I rarely use because it's a pain digging it out from under the stairs and it also makes a racket.
Guess it's worth giving that a go.
Thanks again
I have issues getting to my feet and find it's easier in the bath.
I have a pedicure every month.
Hi chrisgel,
Why struggle - try a chiropodist Your doctor may be able to refer you to the FREE nhs service.
Sadly they told me I wasn't 'a special case' - I'm only 90 but not diabetic or whatever else matters.
So I have a local lady who really takes care of my tootsies every 6 weeks and i really enjoy the relaxed feeling!
I find cutting nails after a shower works very good. Nails are soft and manageable.
