Brilliant film, a great performance from both leads, Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush.

Worth watching, imo.
I agree fender.

Whilst DDL undoubtedly deserved the Oscar for his portrayal, the film in itself was nothing to write home about, but then I thought exactly the same about There Will Be Blood.
Indeed it is, anne. Brilliant movie.
I dislike the ending but don't know if it was true or not - he's just declared war on Germany but, hey, who cares about that when we can celebrate that the king's stutter is not as bad as it used to be...
I quite enjoyed it, but didn't think that it was worth four Oscars - but Helena Bonham Carter was very good.
Don't understand that bibble.

It was the defining moment of the film, a man who conquered something that had plagued him all his adult life and in doing so(with his speech) inspired and united an Empire in what were uncertain times, the undercurrent of fear and trepidation almost palpable, brilliantly borne out in the film.

And he hadn't declared war, the Government had but it fell on him to address an Empire.

It was one of the best pieces of British cinematic history IMHO.
Unbelievably stirring.

Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Good true story, great acting, excellently cast.
No sex, no violence, personal triumph, the very hard work of therapist, subject and his wife.
Oh, and Colin Firth.
both Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush were absolutely marvellous, i loved the ending, of course it was a true story, some bits may have been embellished, but they had Logue's diaries, and the help of his son, i think? A man who was cowed by his own father, Logue believed that was part of the kings problem, psychological, and that the voice exercises and the confidence he gave him made him certainly a better king than was expected. If you listen to his early broadcasts they were tortuous, so Logue gave him a voice, and it was testimony that Logue was at the Kings coronation, unheard of for a commoner..
Zeuhl Junior is in it - but only as a 'Featured Background Artist' ie no lines

but as I said to him; 'if you're going to do any Background Artist stuff, you might as well do it in an Oscar winner'
I recorded it but i havent watched it yet. I know two people who went to see it when it came out and they both loved it and said it was a film not to be missed!
Well, did you watch it, anneasquith?? I must say I enjoyed it.
Question Author
i did. was good. but not one id wish to see again.
No, I wouldn't watch it again either but enjoyed it. Much better than the one about Margaret Thatcher.
Over-rated and hyped to extremes after the royalty-obsessed americans inevitably awarded an Oscar.
Actually a very slight film, with so-so performances, although Helena Bonham Carter was very good.
