I heard he was ill a couple of weeks ago through a friend of a friend - I hadn't realised it was so bad. I love his books and having met him a few times, I can say he seems to be a really nice guy. So sad.

Not a great fan of his books (except the Crow Road) but have heard him talk a few times at Dundee University. Great speaker and a very nice man. So sad.

So bludy unfair, such a great writer. Haven't read a Banks book in a while, but my favourite has to be Player of Games. Also love Use of Weapons (have another memory about that, perhaps on a different thread!?!) Also remember thoroughly enjoying Excession and Inversions. Others I have read are not memorable, but nonetheless enjoyable
