I think theyre ceramic not earthenware laid on thick plywood in bathroom.Water jet is not suitable would some sort of grinder or drill make an impression?
If it is normal grouting then I'd just scrape it out with a suitable sharp metal piont, were I in your shoes. Just be careful.

Just hope it isn't what I used in my bathrooom the first time I laid floor tiles. Being in the bathroom I was persauded by a 'grout' that needed mixing. Must have been some sort of resin mix. Decided that would be very waterproof. Wasn;t as easy as I anticipated and set so hard I don't think it can be easily removed. And when I looked at my first attempt I really wanted to try again, but no dice.
To add to Society's post, look up 'grout removal tool' on Google
One of these would do it. Light enough to hold one-handed.
A 2.5mm stone disc would do the job, but there would be a lot of dust!
