Have just bought new Rosemary and Thyme bushes. Would they be better in a South facing garden or a North facing garden. My others have always been in the North facing one,but I just wondered which would be better. They are both in pots. Thanks for any advice.

All I know is that rosemary likes to grow in dry, sunny conditions.
I had a rosemary bush growing against a sout facing wall - it turned out to be a right thug! Like Topsy it growed and growed..... it seemed to be in ideal conditions. Next time I plant rosemary I intend to put it in a pot!
Did you know you can make a nice rinse for your hair with it? Pour boiling water on a few sprigs in a nice big jug and leave to infuse (and cool) then when washing your hair pour the infusion over your hair in the last rinse, not only will it smell quite nice, it'll add to the shine and make long hair less likely to tangle. I used it a lot on my daughter's long hair when she was young - it used to get very tangled when washing. Mind you only use it if you're a brunette - not suitable for blondes or redheads
south facing in poor well drained soil. They are mediterranean plants and need a good baking.
lol nungate...my rosemary's in the front sunny, dry garden, it's huge and I've told several people to help themselves if they ever need any. One day I'll look out to find it's a bare stem :)
I totally agree with Woofgang!!

The sunnier the better for these Mediterranean plants, they'l smell better too
In my garden they both grow south facing, the rosemary grows in gravel and the thyme sows itself between stone slabs. No need to water them.
