Why would you want to if you fear you may get lost?
Take a very long ball of string, let it unravel behind you as you walk,
when you're ready to leave, follow the string back to where you started, taking care to wind it up carefully as you go!
Works for me.
;o)
Poisoned breadcrumbs - this will give you a trail of dead birds to follow home.
Map and compass
Where would you get a ball of string big enough ? Surmising
an average walk would be several miles....
Stay on the path?

Follow your dog?
Tie medium balls together murray!
Do worry, if you do get lost, there will soon be someone along to say "get off my land"!
With a GPS
Chop down the trees as you go. Follow the lumber back out again.
Explorers used to chop marks into trees with a hatchet so's to find their way back. In these environmentally friendly days, you could instead chalk-mark the trees as you pass them.
Walk backwards, you'll always see where you've come from.
Stay home!
Find a country park that has a way-marked signage. Purchase a map/ leaflet that has info on, your chosen route (most are circular). Look for the way marker posts. Enjoy!
enable GPS on your mobile phone
Drag a plow along. On the way back you can plant more trees.
