why has my dvd player started to play in black & white ,connected to tv via scart.thanks for any info.

The usual causes are
1. Trying to play a DVD not intended for the UK market. (DVDs using the American NTSC colour system usually play in black & white on a UK DVD player using the PAL colour system) ; or
2. A poorly-connected Scart cable. (Unplug it and plug it in again, ensuring that it's a really firm fit).
