Bit of a random question, & I'm not sure where to post... But here goes.
I'm visiting someone in prison this week and I'm really nervous about the whole thing.
I've not been inside a prison before, but have watched Prisoners Wives. Is that what it's like? One big room? Are you sat on a table with the person you're visiting or is there something between you (like glass)?
Also, can I take a bag? Is there anything I can/can't take. I'm nervous about things like searching. Is it a bit like an airport, like no metal or clear liquids???

I'm on my phone and in a really bad signal area so my replies may be slow. TIA for any help or advice though :)

I wasn't searched, they used sniffer dogs.
Also, I think it depends what Cat prison they are in.
This last week I too visited someone in prison for the first time, and like you was very nervous. However, I needn't have been. I suspect every prison is different, but this is how our visit went. We went to the reception first, where we were given a number. When our number was called, we then went over to the wing. We were not allowed to take anything at all in, but a little money (which is checked). Be sure to take your photo ID with you or you won't be allowed in. Everyone goes through a scanner, then is patted down. We were told which table to sit at - the room looked like a school hall. The money you can take in with you can be used to purchase food and drinks, both for yourself and the prisoner. I found the experience extremely emotional, but I'm glad I went, and certainly won't think twice before going again.

That's great. Thankyou for all the help and reassurance. It's Dartmoor I'm going to.
Thankyou for the link RR.

yeah pumbah has got it right

you are going to visit someone for whom the ordeal isnt over when you leave. The prison officers (as I believe they're called) can be a bit arsy but it is all part of the ordeal - for you
