As I'm coming to the end of my current book, I have shortlisted my next read down to 2 books, both of which I really want to read, but can't decide which one to read first. How do ab'ers decide which book to read next??

TBH i would probably start both of them
One would jump out more than the other ..... it's usually about cover colour, images and type face for me - I rarely read the back!
Which are you're 2 shortlisted books, Penny? Maybe someone who has read them could advise you. I usually have a few paperbacks ready to read and I either choose one of an author that I like, or just go for pot-luck. I like reading new authors too.
Opt for one then read the other and save the best till last.

I would probably get them confused if I even attempted to read at the same time, both murders, so can't see that working - plus, don't have the same brain power as I did in my younger days haha!
I take the next one off the heap, unless it's similar to the most recent read, in which case I move down one.

One is Mo Hayder, The Devil of Nanking, one of her stand alone books, which makes it harder to choose. Second is SJ Bolton, Blood Harvest, the first in a series, which makes it hard to choose.
