some do have 5 pints and more and still drive home, they are simply stupid adults. As to seatbelts, they mostly save lives, however we aren't discussing that are we.
from the BBC link the man clearly states they don't want children or teachers breaking something, quickly adding of course they don't want to be sued either.
don't forget, the 5+ pints driver of the car, overloaded with school children not provided with any seat belts
should also be chain-smoking, complaining about 'dark1es' and asking any of the 'little darlings' if they have any sore spots in intimate areas that need rubbing better.
Not this old chestnut again. Schools are horrible places, most of you wouldn't survive in a large secondary school these days (know I won't be going back in a bloody rush). The stuff teenagers have to put up with these days would make your hair curl. Kids and teachers don't close the schools - LEAs, head teachers and governors close schools. Could be based on anticipated transport problems, could be based on safety, could be based on teacher-pupil ratios (they are a lot lower than they used to be and many staff live a long way from school to avoid the pupils and parents out of school time).
Burnley today, Council workers clearing the pavements! Honest, No salt, but clearing the pavement yet you are advised not to do that as a claim could arise if someone slips outside your home.
My son is a teacher and left his house at 6-30a.m. to be sure of getting in on time, only to find a notice that school was called off at 7-30. Agree with sherrardk, it ain't the staff being wimps.
I went to an all girls grammar school in the 60's .It was just as bad .We weren't all little angels .
Even Plato moaned about the "youth of today " .What goes around comes around .
i was once an unsure teen, many are, it often goes with the territory. My schooldays weren't all that brilliant, confident adult, that would another story.
seadog, who closed the school, the governors, board, not sure who has the overall authority now.
And I've just seen the most preposterous scene of all as far as this goes.
The scene: a secondary school in Co. Durham. The school is closed because of adverse weather conditions. However, the school gates are open and the children are sledging and snowballing in the school grounds. So - they can get to the school to play; presumably the school grounds are not so treacherous that they cannot undertake these activities unsupervised but it is far too dangerous for them to go inside and take part in their lessons. I see. (Sides split with laughter and NJ exits).
