Most times I barely glanz at the till receipt but recently I have been doing so and I've found that items being discounted frequently aren't at the till.
This even happens when there is a 'reduced ticket on the item such as when it's on its sell by date. The cashier just scans it and it comes up at the original price.

It happens often.
Take a calculator with you round the supermarket, I do, and the results are surprising.
Take the receipt back to the cashier with the reduced item and politely point out the discrepancy.
I've done it a few times.
(Inside I'm screaming though)
Go straight to customer service.
Has happened to me too, now I make sure the reduced sticker fully covers the original barcode and if it doesn't make a point of telling the cashier at the till.
Oh yes customer services every time, often get a giftcard or the item free as an apology.
I always check my till receipt, ever since some years ago, my father in law asked why we didn't. I checked the receipt and discovered we had been charged for a pair of jeans at £14.99 instead of soap at £1.80. I had not noticed because it was a Christmas shop and dearer anyway.

Several times since I have had mistakes, and always in the supermarkets' favour.
And always check the amount on the chip and pin machines in other shops. We were charged £450 instead of £45 and didn't find out until the bank statement came in.
tescos are quite bad for this
Tescos are very bad for everything - no idea why so many people shop there.
well its either that or a 25 min walk into town
Regarding the last bit about the reduction sticker, its just a case of the sticker isnt over the barcode correctly, i used to do it the right way so the original barcode wouldnt scan.
I had it happen in Asda, a reduced cooked chicken and quite a big reduction. I went to customer service and they refunded me and gave me a £2 gift voucher for the inconvenience.

I have found quite a few offers don't scan through in Tesco either.
I find Sainsburys are the worst - they seem to be the masters of the double scan, charging for 2 items when I have only bought 1. I always check my receipts, and the errors are never in my favour.
I always check my receipts but you can't trust some of the pricing full stop - in Asda today, 18 Penguins for £3.25 or 9 for £1. Genuine stupidity or are they trying to catch people out?

I bought 3 large bars of chocolate at Asda's 3 days ago which had been reduced from £3.48 to £2 ,and when I checked they had charged me the full price, so today I took them back and received a full refund but said I had misread the notice.
However whilst there I checked and I was right all along and went back to the customer service who agreed and I bought them back again at the reduced price. I wonder how many hundreds had bought them without checking. I noticed the big bin which had been piled high was almost empty.
