I am still struggling with the long clue. I'm too young to know music hall songs! It is as follows: Posh, vice was her misfortune. That b_ song a mama's woe? C-could be! I have this: ??? ??? ?o?? ?u? ??? ??? ?????? ?????? o? ? ?i?h ???? g?m? A response to my previous post said it was a part of a lyric of a music hall song. I'd also appreciate 21a: Carter's wit, hopeless case (8) ???g?n??

Many thanks. I have never heard those lyrics before so would never have managed without you. Happy New Year.

Sorry my hints weren't as helpful as intended.

A more well known part of the same song is: (roughly anyway)

It's the same the whole word over

Isn't it a blooming shame

It's the rich that gets the pleasure

And the poor that gets the blame

Anyhow a couple of questions

9A The father of Waterloo (4) xBxA . Abba possibly but why?

13A Stardust is seen in some scanner by Protestant (9) xAx(V)xNxSxT Calvinist maybe but again why?

Sorry ignore the final T on that last one - only 9 letters.

ABBA is used in the Bible for God and it is a title used for bishops. I have Calvinist too - alvin (stardust) + is + ct (scanner). Canny compiler!
