Trying to find titles

Maybe B&W U.S college / university series, the Principal was a short British actor with very precise diction. Always wore a bow tie. In one epiode he punished a student by 'shrouding' him - telling him he would be ignored and not taught. Student turned up at a lecture wearing a sheet looking like a ghost.

(Colour?) Gentle UK comedy sitcom series set in London, probably, but discontinued because the actor (and writer? ) died suddenly.

Ralph starred in Dear John.
When Leonard Rossiter Died , tripper's day became Slinger's Day with Bruce Forsythe and lasted another two series. Pretty dire stuff

Thanks for the information which has put my mind at rest.

Any B&W B movie buffs out there? I have another question, unsolved this past 20 years or more.
What's the question?
ask away Segilla, there are some knowledgeable folks out there in AB-land.

I can still 'see' this clearly even though it was probalby in the 1950s.

American B movie. Hot country, sunny day, 2 men, friends, in light suits and hats outside a golf club.

Man A to Man B. 'Can you get me membership?'
Man B. 'I'll propose you.'

Action moves to a comittee meeting, Man B proposes Man A. A bag is passed around for members to put in either a black or white ball. Chairman empties out the bag. One black ball.

Action back outside.
Man B. 'Sorry, you were blackballed.'
Man A goes away. Man B opens his hand and in it is a white ball.

What was all that about?
