Once you've decided on the species of algae eating fish, google that for water temperature compatibility. Most of the ones in the above links are tropical fish.

Although in my opinion, the algae eaters are interesting subjects... is far better to get the water conditions right so the algae is kept in check biologically.

....and if you are planning on adding one to your tank, please check how big it grows and it's aggression levels. I'm thinking of Chinese algae eaters here...super cute as babies then eat their tank mates!
