Pulled out of the cul-de-sac and on to the road. Another 100 yards to the main road. (Main for us but still quite minor) 20 yards and heard the siren of a police car. Pulled over, I thought he just wanted to get past. He got out of his car, came over and asked me to do the same. Asked me if I had been drinking. No says I. What about last night he asked, again I replied no. Okay he said, got back in his car and off he went. I really was shaken by this so I went home. No shopping but puzzled.

Judging with out the facts? Not sure what you mean by that!

I just don't see what there is to get het up about if your car is in good order and you haven't been drinking.
Before this gets a bit out of hand and misunderstandings start flying, may I add my twopennorth?

I feel that when you are at a low ebb and feeling vulnerable the slightest thing can knock you back - something that on most days you would laugh off.
Leave it Eccles

Jeza's looking after Micmak who's really ill and came her for a bit of support and reassurance. Chin up Jeza sweetpea, you're doing a fantastic job - the Police didn't mean to pick on you.
An example, when my late husband was very ill, I broke a cup (not in the least unusual for me) I sobbed for half an hour.
You're right, mamya and maidup - it is something and nothing if things are on an even keel, but any bit of a problem can feel huge if things are not so good.
I've read this very carefully - all of it.

I can't see that gness and eccles have been anything but supportive - with no criticism either explicit or implicit of Jeza.

Just clear statements that we should all welcome the police doing their job - which at this time of year includes checking vehicles and drivers to protect the rest of us who use the roads.
I agree Dave and was not suggesting otherwise , just maybe trying to soften the edges of what looked like a rebuke.
We are all thinking of you Jeza and Micmak ...........and send you a (((hug)))
I take it your're not black? if you were black you'd understand, it's an every day occurrence for black people........I don't know why you're so upset about it, it's just a random thing that happens.
I'd be puzzled too, Jeza - there are enough people out there driving badly on major roads (several dozen of them have sped past me in the rain, cut in on me etc in the last couple of days) to pull up without wasting their time on people driving safely on minor roads. I suppose the answers others have given must be correct, but I don't really see the point of it all.
Perhaps he was a kissogram not a real copper!
I have no idea why my comments have been taken quite so personally or viewed as an attack.

There was no rebuke, I'm not sure what it is I should leave and no one was being picked on. Many of us have our cross to bear and have days when we feel vulnerable.

A sense of perspective is a great thing and is all the more important when we find ourselves being more inward looking than is necessarily good for us.

I bet those who pulled you over had themselves had a drink the night before .
Are there any actual statistics for "next morning" drink driving.

Of course it is technically possible to be over the limit. But the example given by drinkaware involves drinking until 3am and then getting up and driving by 8am ...

http://www.drinkaware.co.uk/facts/driving-the-morning-after-drinking-alcohol

Do many of us often drink until 3am???

Is the risk actual, or notional?

Are there any stats?

I have been pulled by a roadblock and breathalysed...hadn't had a drink for 48 hours but the cop said that the car smelled of alcohol, I should think it did, my middle aged, dinner jacketed DH and his mates had just been for a night out and I was taking them home. They were all in high and hilarious spirits and ribbed the policeman unmercifully. I managed to reverse over and destroy a bollard (not my fault, he told me to reverse and didn't move the bollard)
I dont mind being pulled but wonder if that's the best use of police time if they have no reason to think that the driver has been drinking.
My last word because I realise now that some posts require agreement and not discussion but....I can't think of many better uses of police time, at this time of year especially, than checking the ability of people to drive safely and soberly in taxed, insured and roadworthy cars.
Best to Mic Jeza. x
drivers in insured/roadworthy cars. also drink and drive .
I'd rather see them pulling the boy racers and idiots that I saw out yesterday who may not have touched a drop but who were nevertheless driving like pillocks.
JJ, there was a police woman on telly in Dec and she said that this year they'd pinched more people between the hours of 7am and 9am than they do late at night. She never gave figure, but some people I know have been caught the morning after, if you're a big drinker, it wouldn't be hard.
