ELVIS68,
I read somewhere recently that Wiggins had that question posed to him. He initially indicated that he would possibly decline but retracted almost immediatley, saying that his grandfather(who basically raised him as his father) would be upset to think that a working class boy had had such an honour bestowed upon him and refused, so he would accept.
i was highlighting the fact that it is a tradition to honour the olympian medallists with Knighthoods/Damehoods, or an MBE etc.
Is it just speculation? I didn't think they were officially announced until New Years Eve? I suppose it is inevitable though .............
hi Ann - guess you have seen the gradual role out of the AB Carols?

Is there a Knighthood for that? I doubt.
I think it's valuable way of rewarding what the successes of our best sportsmen and women have given to the morale of the country. I suspect if the we'd gone broke during the Olympics no one would have been too bothered because the Games gave most of us such a high. The TDF will give Wiggins his knighthood rather than the Olympics similar to what Ellen McArthur got when she went round the world. The feats are of similar magnitude.

I'd expect to see something big for Seb Coe he's a lord already but there are higher accolades, Knighthoods for Wiggins and Ainsley, Hoy might get something else, Farah a CBE I'd expect (as Wiggins got for two golds last time), there will probably be other bigger honours for those connected like Brailsford (Knighthood here as well I expect already CBE like Brad).

It's important to recognise the award is for achievement but also for what that does for the country....after what we saw this summer who could deny them anything
I am anti this; they have the honour of winning their medals

Gongs should be given out at the end of their career, unless they have achieved something exceptional like Ainslie......
-------------------------------------------

Though not at the end of his career I'd say Wiggins more than fits that bill.
Hi DT, yes I am most impressed! Perhaps you could improve on the God rest ye merry gentleman sketch from Not the nine O'clock news sketch I have just posted! Not been on here much recently, computer playing up:(
Thanks Chill, "Forced to accept it"

He doesn't fit in the clique like the rest of them

Was flying home from South Africa the day she died. Such a talented lady, such a loss.
at least they've achieved something on the world stage, unlike a faceless civil servant who has just been doing his job for x number of years
Never actually underestood why civil servants get honours. Most seem to be uncivil and do not regard themselves as servants.
