Since arguably the greatest Christmas song ever, Fairytale Of New York was released.
More poignantly it will be 12 years next week(18th) since Kirsty MacColl was tragically killed in a speedboat accident.
Where does the time go?

RIP Kirsty.

Matter of opinion

Worst xmas song ever IMO, McGowan 'sings' like a drunk on karaoke

Switch channels on TV/radio every time I hear its intro
"Worst xmas song ever IMO, McGowan 'sings' like a drunk on karaoke"

...but isn't that the reason it works so well? The beautiful vocals of MacColl alongside McGowans? The vocal performance fits his description in the song.

As opposed to his usual Mario Lanza style you mean?
Thanks Nox, was going to ask if someone would post FONY by the Pogues. When I hear it I know Christmas is near - love it.
I'm the same maggie. It's not Christmas till I've heard FOY on the radio. I don't know what they did but it certainly worked.
'... you took my dreams away when I first met you. I kept them with me babe, I put them with my own, can't make it on my own, I built my dreams around you...'

Just beautiful. My favourite christmas song.
Indeed - RIP Kirsty.
I remember where I was when I heard the news.

Wrong thread fredkins?
An acute and chronic illness that has troubled you for 25 yrs must be difficult.

Brilliant song......
If you've had a chronic illness for 25 years that could kill you then it sounds like you're doing very well all things considered. Long may it last.
