Didn't like it and was disappointed.
In the first episode we definitely saw the mother fall asleep on the park bench and the back of a man walking away with the boy under his arm.
odd, confess that after the first episode didn't watch much of the rest.
Thought it was rubbish - didn't really understand any of it. After reading the write-ups about it before it started was hoping for a truly frightening story, so persevered watching right up till the end. Oh dear, what a waste of time.
I really enjoyed all of it and I'm not much of a one for cheesy ghost stories. I thought it was good right through, but was a bit disappointed with the end, particularly as Cribben stayed behind, and I don't believe for one mo (even in the paranormal world) that Nancy would have asked him to join her & the kids....
I did enjoy it, and read the book at the same time. I thought it was a reasonably good adaptation, (although I don't remember Devon every being 'up north') but the ending was nothing like the book! In the book,
Stefan was murdered first and thrown down the well (I think!) and then Cribben went on to strangle all the other children one by one. Yes, future inhabitants of the house did hear the swish-thwack of Cribben's cane. I don't normally enjoy ghost stories, but I did think this one was quite good.
I think that the only reason I had any clue about what was going on in the last episode was because I have read the book! At any rate the book was much more scary than the tv adaptation made it out to be - I did wonder how the BBC were going to adapt it, bearing in mind that a fair amount of the story revolves around sado-masochistic abuse.
have all 3 episodes on hard drive to watch in a oner..when I have the time !
