I have an HP Deskjet 1050 (all-in-one printer, scanner, copier) and occasionally scan something to the computer. I do this by using
Micrographx Picture Publisher and going to File > Acquire, but I'm told there is another way without depending on that aditional software. Can someone tell me what the other method is please?

(Windows 7) Thank you. I'll have to do a bit more experimenting; hoping to have an icon specially for the purpose on the quick launch bar.
Try this:
Start menu, right click on Windows Fax and scan, click Send to Desktop (creates shortcut)

Thank you for your interest. Sorry I was mistaken saying Windows 7 - should be Windows XP. I now have a shortcut that will take me to Scanners and Cameras (on Control Panel). Provided scanner is switched on, that in turn shows the option to ‘Get picture using scanner wizard’.
