Hi, my computer is running Windows Vista, and it had been running an Epson DX 6000 psc printer. Since I installed the new HP printer, it refuses to scan images. It will print, it will copy, but not scan onto computer. I have tried the HP Print and Scan doctor, but when it comes to "SELECT SOURCE" the computer will only recognise the previous (uninstalled and recycled) Epson printer. Is there any way I can get round this problem, I have looked at VueScan but the images are spoiled with Watermarks, it seems pointless to buy the VueScan premium version as perhaps I would be better to buy a new PSC printer.... How can I get back to scanning images onto the computer. Your help is appreciated, please, but please try to keep it simple, as you can detect, I don't know a whole lot about techie stuff!! Thanks.

Your 'all-in-one' printer is actually several devices (i.e. printer, scanner, etc) within a single casing. Each device needs its own driver. You seem to have installed the printer driver but not the scanner one.

Use the installation disc that came with the printer again. If there's a 'custom installation' option, allowing you to just select the driver for the scanner, use it. Otherwise run the full installation program again. Then restart your computer and cross your fingers.

If you can't find the disc you can download the installation software from here:

Thank you for that helpful information. By now, I have uninstalled and reinstalled the printer, using the disk that came with it. I'll have a go at your solution, so fingers crossed!

Thank you for that Methyl... I have tried everything at this stage, install, uninstall, software first, etc etc, nothing works. The HP support site is no help, it keeps looping to first screen without anything useful. So at this stage it looks as if my printer is for the recycling bin as I really need a scanner. Not the first to have this problem, but wonder is there any alternative to Vuescan without the watermarks? Your feedback is much appreciated, thank you.
Have you tried Windows Vista own scanning program?

I know it shows a separate scanner but the principles the same. Your HP Deskjet should also be listed as the Default Printer.

From previous experiences with HP printers/scanners it is imperative you install all drivers and follow all prompts during installation to the 'letter'. One step out of line and the installation process will fail without you having a clue as to what went wrong!!

It's one the main reasons why I now have a Canon printer/scanner!

Thanks for your input, I never knew there was an alternative in Vista.... will try that later.
