What do you all thiink about this argument going on about John Humphries and the councils leaves?
Who do you think is right and who is wrong? He is being accused of stealing them now.
For anyone who hasnt heard, the council men had swept up the leaves from outside hos house, some of them he says are off of his tree. They bagged the leaves up ready for collection to be incinerated. Out came John Humphries and took a sack and put the contents on his compost heap, now there is a big hoo har about it. He says they can come and get the leaves back if they want as long as they know which ones they belong . He says he is help the planet too as they are being recycled!

Personally, i think that once the leaves have been bagged up then he should leave them alone!
he's paid his council tax for the service though so why is be bothered where they go?
Well I suppose he should have bagged them up himself before they blew on the street for the council to clear up, I'm presuming they didn't go onto his property to clear them.
Sounds like a storm in a teacup to me. If he wants the leaves for his heap then let him have them. Why annoy folk for the sake of it ? Could have all the rest too if he likes.
I agree with OG...what a silly fuss.
honestly what a load of jobsworths....
Oh, My God! Where is the fine dividing line between rank stupidity and raving insanity?
Wish our council would come and bag up the ten trillion leaves which have fallen from their trees onto my drive .......dream on, They will stay there until either they rot or I sweep them up.....:-(.

Typical Townhall nonsense....
Pity the council can't concern itself with more important matters. If they were only going to incerate the leaves and JH is using them on his composter then he is at least making good use of them.
If he wanted them should have swept them up and bagged them himself.

yes, thats what i thought hc4361.
It all seems to be a storm in ateacup to me.
My dad always went round the streets with a wheelbarrow and bin bags gathering up the leaves for compost and mulch during the autumn.

It seems to me that JH was using council workmen as skivvies.
I think Mr Humphries and the council should get out more...
HC, my dad was the same. He gathered beech leaves as he thought they made the best compost.
Believe the council said that if leaves have been lying in the street then they are polluted with emissions from traffic and can't be composted - they have to be incinerated. What a load of tosh.
