I have just come across a video of David Icke on YouTube. To be honest I have forgotton all about him, after all that fuss when he appeared on Wogan years ago.

But he is still going !

He is plainly barking mad. Why do people believe in such errant nonsense ?

Hmmm.
Several million catholics are required to believe they consume the flesh and blood of a man who rose from the dead, every sunday.
David Icke chooses to believe in lizard people.
I don't know how you calculate the number of followers he has, but I suspect they fit comfortably in a small car.
he has re-surfaced again??

what is the nutter getting up to now?
He's made a lot of dosh out of being ''mad''.
David Icke is still going as you put it.

'He is plainly barking mad.' I think he would say it is "US" who are mad :)

Also just because people are interested does not mean they 'believe'.

I think tony has the answer ! "A fool and his money are soon parted"

But there is a more serious matter here. Lots of people across the world are attracted to charlatans like Icke. These aren't uneducated, just credulous.

Millions of Americans believe that the world was created 60,000 years ago, and that man run around chasing dinosaurs for their lunch. This is despite living in a country where everybody has been to school. They also have the Grand Canyon, one of the best examples of an eroded landscape that this planet has to offer.

So, what I am getting at is....how can these people leave their intellect behind them, when a simple perusal of the facts would show that some things just can't be true ?

Why are people so stupid !
Stupid as a life choice - this was described as early as the 300s BC by the philosopher Plato

There's not much thats new, including choosing not to notice evidence.
I have spent a life time wondering why. There is no real answer.
It is belief and people like to belong to something other the the Human race with all the horrible things people do to one another.
These usually expensive 'escape' ideologies give an escape that helps them cope with life.
They have one thing is common desire for your money or possessions and that everybody else are doomed or just wrong. THEY are the few who have been Enlightened.
I used to think that Icke was just a harmless nutter but unfortunately he also seems to be rather anti-Semitic too – blaming the Jews for all sorts of things they had nothing to do with. Despite that rather unpleasant side to his beliefs, I find his unashamed lunacy highly entertaining.

Mark Steel (the comedian) did a rather funny show called 'Mark Steel's In Town' and one of his shows was from Douglas on the Isle of Man. In it, he mentions the fact that David Icke thinks that aliens visited this island and I quote, “... It is my belief through lengthy research that the Isle of Man is a remnant of Atlantis. At the time Atlantis was destroyed, the people of Atlantis were mining for helium on Saturn. After time, the ability to travel to Saturn was lost and helium was not found on earth so their space craft were buried deep in the sands of Egypt as pyramids. Therefore the Saturn aliens have claimed the Isle of Man as a holy place and that is why the queen is the lord of man and wears a Saturn hat...”

I assume that Mark was paraphrasing but as far as I understand Mr Icke's beliefs, he seems to have hit the nail on the head.

I apologise for straying a little from the original thread but if you enjoy a laugh, the above broadcast that I quoted from can be found here:

David Icke is an intelligent man and very well read. He has some cranky ideas to say to least - but he's not a fool.

People believe such nonsense because they're impressed by it and don't bother to research it from a critical angle that exposes the faults and inaccuracies. Same with religion.
There is no more glory to be derived from fooling fools then there is in being one . . . don't ask me how I know that. :o/
the only difference between a religion and a cult is time

Naomi. Of course Icke is not a fool....he appears to be making a very good living from his daft rantings. But if he believes in his own nonsense, than how on earth can he be decribed as intelligent ?

Wouldn't an intelligent person have realised, long ago, that what he saying cannot possibly be true ?
Mikey, it's a mistake to confuse intelligence with common sense. The two do not necessarily go hand in hand. ;o)

Naomi...You may very well be right !

Its just that I find it so frustrating at people just don't seem to be able to use common sense !
mikey, so do I - that's why the mentality of apparently intelligent people who cling to religious superstition frustrates me - but we can't put common sense where there is none.
