/// Ticket prices for special performances will be cheaper than usual - £25 for the best seats in the house, which can cost £100 on regular nights - and will include an invitation to a post-show party with cast and company members. ///

Don't say they will be sitting in the same seats?

This thread just reminds me how long it's been since I went to an opera , or the ballet, or even a classical concert (or any concert for that matter). Life is beginning to pass me by, never seems to be the time or opportunity these days.
OG ... open another browser tab, and book yourself a gig !
Yeah but I'm not the young people they are trying to attract ;-)
Besides no one really to go with in this part of the world. I must arrange something before too long though.

Don't sweat it.

I always thought that by the time I was my ate now (46), I would spend my spare time improving my mind by wandering around art galleries, listening to obscure bluegrass albums and enjoying concerts at Glynnourne.

It didn't happen.

The only concerts I've attended this year have been by Kylie and Madonna.

Rule of thumb - do whatever pleases you and regret nothing.
//do whatever pleases you and regret nothing//

OMG, SP ... you are just the BEST life coach EVER!

I love it.
Respect to you em for having been to the Met. I was brought up in the Promenade at RAH and the Gods at ROH so never got used to dressing up. These days its R3 and strictly Rohan jeans. Been to the Ring a few times and comfort is highly desirable for those magnificent marathons.
Slightly ironic to say the least that snobbery rules so much where some opera houses are concerned when you think that some of our most outstanding composers had to live in abject poverty.
There is absolutely nil justification for insisting on such outdated dress codes. As long as people are clean and tidy, isn't that enough? Does it make us enjoy it any more if men are trussed up like turkeys and women have to look like something out of a debutante's ball. Ridiculous.
I'm with Tony on this one.

No matter what I am allowed to wear, there is no way I am going to an opera.

Errr...I should have said, "do whatever pleases you, within the law, and regret nothing".

Can't have a big free-for-all!
Wearing jeans? Where the Royal Opera House goes,ENO follows! 'Black tie' is a rare sight at Covent Garden, even on 'gala' nights. People turn up wearing whatever they feel at ease in,jeans included, but the women are more inclined to 'make an effort' than the men are.
