Between Mr Craft 1 and 2 the daughter used to come to my office for my last half hour of work each day to sit and wait for me to go home. After a couple of months the boss had her answering the phone.................
I just had to refuse a request from a member of staff who wanted to bring her children in for 3 hours a week (of the 9pw she works). Actually it wasn't even a request she just assumed!
She had done it once before without notice and it was an awful distraction for everyone, and of course she did not get her work done as they were constantly wanting her attention. Terrible idea!
Jesus wept - what an appalling idea - and the on-site creche would just be another bloody excuse for 'devoted parents' to skive off every few minutes and leave the rest of us to do the work.
both of my children have been at my desk when i work since birth. In fact, i coud work, speak to customers and type one handed whilst feeding them.
They are pretty well behaved and there are only a handful of occasions where they were noisy enough to be heard by a customer.
The only time i had trouble was when i was on the phone to someone called Bob. Now in our house private parts are called bits(girls) and Bob (boys). My some thought it highly amusing that i was talking to someone called Bob and kept asking me over and over again "is that really a Bob?"
I am lucky though in as much as i am a director and it was pretty much the only way that I could continue to work as i do.
Come september both children will be at school 9-3 so i will get a lot more time without one of them here.
I do miss the days of working with a sleeping newborn in a crib beside me though :(
no point if its at or by your desk, that wouldn't work at all. My point and i was assuming the company had a separate area for children, a creche, away from the office but in the building, so you could see the children at various stages in the day, if one wished. Then take them home afterwards.
Can you imagine certain occupations where children are taken to work?
For example a policewoman about to arrest someone.
"Just hold my baby a minute, will you, while I get my handcuffs out."
