Presumably because it looks like any picture of the sun drawn by a three year old!



Spain has no national flower - it does have the pomegranate.

Sunflower so called because it tracks the path of the sun through the sky during the day.


No news about the flower of Spain tho, sorry!

The Latin name of sunflower is from the name the Sun God: Helianthus, as it follows the sun in its circuit of the sky - in French, Sunflower is tournesol, or literally "turn with the sun".


Officially Spain does not have a flower,(think it used to be the carnation) but the Pomegranate is quoted as one most often. Doesn't have a bird either.
