This might help as far as how yeast is manufactured...

Hard to tell exactly what you're looking for... Best of luck!

It's a little critter (a plant actually) that can reproduce. In a warm, moist place, give it a bit of sugar and it will make more baby yeastlings and give off nitrogen gas (hence its use in breadmaking) and alcohol (great in beer). You've got to treat it kindly though as its easy to kill (high temperatures or lack of food) or put into statis (by low temps). For a more technical answer, just use google and search through all the hits. Hope you get a gold star now.

Ah, that's why I didn't get a gold star for my work (either that or my memory's gone) Thanks Eddie

Sorry, October (not having a go), but it's not a plant either, but a member of the fungi kingdom.
Bigquestion - this is exactly why you should do your own research. Apologies again, the other guys are quite right, I've been up late too many nights in a row..
Not a criticism, just a few facts. Yeast doesn't give off any gas. It contains enzymes which catalyse the fermentation of glucose producing ethanol and carbon dioxide.
