no ipconfig

Hi,

Computer moved to new house, new isp, now talktalk. connected new modem to desk top wiith lead, no internet access. tried with laptop for wireless signal and accessed the net no problem. did "start" run. then "ipconfig" on the desktop, and it displayed nothing, back to the flashing curser. no "169.192 etc.
phoned talktalk, they were no help. went into internet options and there was no modem shown, tried loading disk and following set up instructions, but it fails any ideas please.

Firstly, ipconfig won't work properly from the run box, you need to open a command line (type cmd into the run box) and then type ipconfig.

do you get any link lights on the router for the port your plugging into, also does the computer show it has a network connection if you look at the interface properties or does it dhow no cable connected?

thanks for the reply. yes, the lights are all up, and if you change to port two on the hub that lights up and one goes out. sorry, didn't mention went start,run,cmd, then ipconfig. went in through "cmd". is it possible that the hub is faulty? I know that talktalk are sending out refurbished units, it just seems strange that the computer does not find the hub/router, it should be plug and play. there are no messages about cables not connected.
