I was cycling in my local market town along a oneway street and I had 2 run-ins with the locals about cycling on a oneway street in the wrong direction. I thought this would've been fine if I am only a cyclist keeping near the kerb.

Was I incorrect for doing this?

You what, Old Geez?

Oh, and thanks Spudqueen.
Just tell them "I'M ONLY GOING ONE WAY!!"
and when you hit a car coming the other direction ?..whos fault would it be ?
Its also very possible someone could step out in front of you as they wouldnt expect anyone coming the wrong way.
In my experience, lots (not all) of cyclists seem to think that the normal rules of the road don't apply to them at all. Red light? Just drive straight through. Traffic jam? Don't wait your turn, just drive on the pavement. And as for stopping at a zebra crossing like all the other traffic - why would you when you can overtake on the nearside and nearly kill the pedestrian (who just happened to be my mother) who is crossing the road??
