I was cycling in my local market town along a oneway street and I had 2 run-ins with the locals about cycling on a oneway street in the wrong direction. I thought this would've been fine if I am only a cyclist keeping near the kerb.

Was I incorrect for doing this?

Do you think the Highway Code only applies to other people then mlx ?
yes
If you are on the road then the one way street applies - if you are on the pavement then you are breaking the law (unless you get off and push/walk)
Oh dear! Perhaps it might be worth getting a copy of the cycling rules. Incidentally, you are supposed to stop at traffic lights as well.....
Think for a moment about pedestrians crossing the road, which way would they look in a one-way street?

Ooops...my apologies to the person I was rude to today, as I said it didn't matter I was cycling on the road going the wrong way. Stupid me!!

I won't be doing that again then
I always remember being told its breaking the law to push your bicycle across a pelican crossing - is this still law?

Just bought a new bike..I think i may need to read-up on cyclist road rules.
you give a cyclist a bad name you know !!...
"I always remember being told its breaking the law to push your bicycle across a pelican crossing - is this still law?"

Never was the law.
AS far as I'm aware it is riding a bike across a crossing which is frowned upon. Otherwise, you are just a pedestrian with a bike. IF they passed a law against that they would have to include baby buggies...
A person driving or propelling a vehicle who fails to comply with the indication given by a traffic sign is guilty of an offence - maximum fine £1000.
Not so long ago in our local one way system I pulled out of a junction having checked to my left it was all clear, quick glance to the right to check for pedestrians, another look to the left (for traffic) pulled out and had a cyclist, going against the traffic ride into the front of me, luckily no damage done because of low speed involved.
But all cyclists are incarnations of God almighty, they can do no wrong, they cycle wherever they wish, in any direction they wish, at any risk to themselves and others because if something happens it is always the other's fault for existing and being only human; no laws apply to cyclists. What are you lot thinking of ?
i read some where recently, possibly only applies to the capital, that bikes will be allowed to travel the wrong direction on one way streets. Having been a cyclist, i loved ever moment, i find it galling the way that many flout the laws. Riding on pavements is illegal yet many still do it. As to the berk who cycled through the small local park recently, where there are big signs up no cycling allowed. He was going flat out and only missed a little child by inches. i wish i had something handy to swat him with.
You can ride your bike across a Toucan crossing - but I've never seen one.
I would love to cycle but the hills here are very steep (excuse #1) and I am scared of getting killed (excuse #2). I am full of admiration for people who cycle. Muchlove, just nip off your bike and push it along the pavement if you are going down that street again.
Some of our friends got done for pushing their bikes whilst tiddly - it was the balloons wot gave them away.
A toucan crossing for Hopkirk.

I had to look it up - I've never seen one either!
Of course a toucan crossing allows bicycles to be ridden across. Same as all other places for pedestrians such as zebra crossings and subways etc. Goes without saying.
