hi lhorne, you may get more info if you put this over in body and soul or money and finance :)
Is it Working Familys Tax Credit? If so I think you can. I work in a college and people with WFTC can avoid paying course fees as long as their total annual income isn't higher than 14.200. I also used to work in a dental surgery where anyone on benefits would receive free NHS treatment and they didn't have to pay for prescriptions. You just have to bring your award notice and ID with you as proof. Why don't you look it up on the net on the DWP (Dept of workpensions) website or do a google search under benefit entitlement
A friend of mine receives WTCs and she gets free prescriptions and dental treatment.

Working tax credits isn't a 'benefit' as such.

This states that you can only get help with health costs, through your tax credit, if you are named on a 'Tax Credit NHS Exemption Certificate'

It

Oops

It also mentions an NHS Low Income Scheme where, if you have less than 8000 capital (guess that means savings) you can apply for help by filling in a HC1 form which you get from a Benefits office or NHS hospital (or possibly also from doctor, dentist or optician).

There is a hell of lot of other info in the link I posted above so hopefully you should get the info you need - I also get WTC so am now going to look into it myself so thanks for that.

Me again - just found out that you can request a form from:

http://www.ppa.org.uk/ppa/HC1_form.htm

If you are within the income level that is entitled to free prescriptions/glasses u should receive an exemption certificate/ like a credit card with the valid dates and also a covering letter stating who is covered by this, they ( inland revenue tax credits), will then send one every year that you are entitled then you just produce this at chemists, opticians and also dentists if they ask for proof.

you should not need the HC1 form u should automatically get your exemption certificate if you are entitled
