My son was in a lesson yesterday and the teacher got onto the subject of things that were tiny. my son said " Keirans tiny". Keiran is an absolutely teeny little boy who everybody loves, very very small and very popular. He and my son are good friends. The teacher then said " Well you've got a big nose and big ears!" One of which my son is very sensitive. Whether teacher was joking or not(h actually didnt smile or lauch), dont you think that was a tad OTT?

Yep, it sure was.

(*laugh,) excuse spelling!
totally inappropriate
Hmm, I supopose the teacher was trying to make the point that personal comments can be hurtful, but that was downright rude! Not a good example at all.
It could be a reaction to the teeny comment which could also be seen as offensive if the boy is conscious of his stature. I also think the teacher's comments were unnecessary and inappropriate.
Yep...I'd go mad!!

My son is teeny...small kids know they will grow. Pointing out things to a child that won't change can be damaging.
Teeny kids tend to be popular because other kids tend to be protective over them.
I can see what she was getting at, but she was wrong, for the reasons ummmm says. She would have done better to have pointed to some defect your son didn't have, like three arms, so he'd get the joke but also get the point.

Keiran might not like being called tiny, all the same.
I too agree with the intention and it would have been a good thing to discuss with the class, she could have said "Kieran what you have said is very important because some words that we use to describe things, can be hurtful if we use them to describe people...eg fat cushion, smelly cheese" so good intention, bad delivery.
Out of order! My grandson went through a chubby period in his teens. Teacher was asking the class about their favourite food and, when she got to him said she didn`t need to ask as it was obviously chips and burgers. She didn`t do it twice.

Keiran actually loves it, all the girls mother him! Am actually really annoyed, but son has told me not to even consider saying anything to the school as the teacher will be cross.
I still think you should say something. The teacher was out of order and needs to apologise to your son. Aren't we supposed to be teaching our kids not to say nasty things to people? So why is it ok for a teacher to do it It might prevent that teacher being quite so thoughtless in future.

It wouldn't be so bad if your son had said something nasty about the other kid and the other kid said that back to him but not from a teacher. They should know better.
I would just let it go, the teacher probably thought it was wrong that your son was making comments about his friends size regardless of how keiran feels about it. the teacher dealt with it wrongly but I dont think anything will be gained by dragging it on to the school.
If your sone really doesn't want you to say anything, I would let it go on this occasion. If you don't, you risk your sone stopping telling you stuff.
My mother died young so i spent a lot of school holidays with an aunt in the Wrexham area, most of male's worked in the mines and the younger ones hated it but uncle Bill accepted it,and said he find me a job if i wanted. That September when the new term started the youth employment officer came round asking what our ambitions were, the usual bricklayers plumbers etc to the fore but he seemed taken aback when he heard mine ,the teacher, a right t__t, replied ,thats where you belong down a deep, dark, hole

lol owdhammer.

Tricky, if I speak to the school they will speak direct to the teacher who will then know it was my son who said something. May let it go just this once but if it happens again.....
Just make a record of it and bring it up if anything more serious happens or if small things continue to happen ...
