I am going to Greece in mid-May. Should I buy Euros now or is the feeling that the rate will continue to improve?

I would wait and buy when you get to Greece.

I wouldn't buy them at all - we just get out money out of a hole in the wall when we get there. Much less risk than carrying cash.

The rate at the moment is very good. I personally would buy now. Greece has got very expensive during the past 12 months, take this into consideration.

I have been watching it closely last few months for the same reason as you. It's gone under 82p for the first time in the last couple of days and I was thinking of at least getting some now for my hols. Having said that the change has been very gradual and can't seeing it going back up to more than 84p in the next month!

am no expert but I bought some yesterday as the rate was almost 1.19 which is the best I have seen.

Get them now if you can get a 1.18 as it is the highest for a very long time. Buying currency is a gamble that you have to take sometime. But be careful if you are taking more cash than your insurance covers!
Paying the charge at the hole in the wall is better than being mugged.

Yes, that's buying them when you get there - but you'll get a much better exchange rate locally than you will from an ATM.

I doubt any change (up or down) will be significant. I would take account of other considerations (eg do I want to tie my cash up now, can I be bothered to do it there) rather than try to predict currency movements.

Buildersmate, it is not nonsense it was to advise the person that they may need more Euro than they thought, I thought this site was to give constructive help not ridicule people? End of.
