Why would you use ketchup instead of puree, their is no comparison

Cos I haven't got any puree and can't get to the shops. I've seen it commented on by some TV chef or other that it's an acceptable alternative.

Sorry suechu, tomato puree is very intense, tomato ketchup is uber sweet
Ketchup is low on tomato content and relatively high in sugar.

What is the dish you are making, as this will have some bearing on the proportions. Although personally if I was to go down this route I'd add, taste, add, taste etc.
what are you making?
If it's one of the premier brands, ie heinz, I might try it in a crisis but not the cheaper ones which are low in tomato content but high in sugar and vinegar.

don't mind the sweetness, it's for a barbecue sauce which includes sugar - I'll just put less sugar in

Tks bella, so delia says 1 hpd tbs puree, the same in ketchup do we think?
Dont do delia, look for another recipe online, google barbecue sauce recipes
