last week no.2 daughter and grand-daughter came to stay. lovely to see them as the last time we met was at my mother's funeral in august.

i said we were thinking of down-sizing and the instant comment from grand-daughter was "but where would we stay if you do that?" "and if i come to down here to study where will i spend my weekends?"

i'm flattered she wants to stay with us but what would you have said in reply?

by the way grandson have just rung and said they are travelling down overnight and would like to stay for a few days as they have some time off work.

leaving the key in the front door when i go to bed.

I think I would feel a little disappointed to think they think of me as a conveniant doss house, as you say its lovely to see them but I'm sure you're glad when they've gone too. Sounds like they're using you as a free meal ticket too.
I think your D & GD had discussed the conveniance of you being there beforehand & thats why she jumped in so quickly.

Me? I'd be up to the nearest estate agent first thing.
I know they're your family but Lady-J I think they're using you.

i must say that as the youngest is 18 yrs i thought they would gradually drift away and only think of me when they wanted something - free b&b and evening meal. as we live on the cornish coast surfing and rock climbing is a good holiday but they seem to come down sometimes for a couple of days and just hang around the garden and the house.

okay everyone that's my lot - busy day tomorrow. key in the door and light on in hall.

good night all. (just hope the insomnia doesn't visit)
If insomnia does visit, lj, your house will be really crowded!!. (It's visiting me tonight). When my wife and I retired we downsized to a two bedroom flat. Our 5 year old granddaughter came to stay for one night a week. We took her to school Tuesday a.m., collected her from school, she stayed the night then we took her to school the next a.m. All because her Mum was working full time. She is now 7 years old and although our daughter is no longer working the hours she was, we have carried in the 'tradition'. We enjoy having her and she likes staying, and she only lives round the corner.
