Just wondered how many would pass their driving test again, I know I would hate to take mine again and I think I am a good driver.

I always change down gears when I slow down. That's the way I got taught only a few years ago. You're not allowed to skip gears on the test though.
The HGV at that time was a Thames Trader the brakes were Vac Assisted, the more you pumped the less the brake & the pedal became harder, I was Lucky I came off a side road in Anglesey onto the A5 Loaded but nothing happened regards my so-called brakes, the road was clear I was also lucky there, Obviously now the HGVs would stop if there was an Air Loss, there was a smell in the cab which I could not make out!
Well I've only driven Automatics for the past 35 years, so gears would be a problem for me.
I change down as well...
Isn't the issue about being in control of the car, not crashing down through the gear box? In Advanced they teach you to come up to a junction in 5th or 4th and then to select to pull away....
I was allowed to skip gears when I passed 7 years ago Erin. And I was told you don't need to use your handbrake if you are one of the first 3 cars waiting at traffic lights. Seemed to work for me.
I was told not to :| and I failed a test for not putting my handbrake on... She was notoriously nit-picky!
A lot of people I know would rather take a driving test than go to the dentist. I used to agree with them but now I bed to differ as have got a lovely Hungarian chap now. He makes you feel really at home and is the first time I have relaxed at the dentist.

Which thing would you rather do given the choice?
Not an easy choice Johnny but I'd settle for the dentist!

I'd say "no" when asked if I had any problems, flinch through the clean and polish and make a sharp exit.
I wouldn't because I don't do motorways, and I think that's part of the test now?
I think the reason for emphasising using the brakes rather than the gears to slow down is because then the boy-racer right up your @rse will at least get some indication of your action from your brake lights.
