Today there was a question ' Were the Bow Street Runners an early form of fire service'.

The guy answered false - which is correct as they are the first policemen.

However Mr Knowles then said - I believe - that they were based in East London in the Bow area. WRONG Mr K. They worked out of their founders (author Henry Fielding's) office and court at No. 4 Bow Street, close to Covent Garden in central London
