Has anyone got away with not paying the new 'BT payment fee' ?

Has anyone phoned BT to argue this and did it lead to an offshore call centre?

I'm tempted to write out a cheque early with just the amount of the costs minus the 4.50 and enclose a letter stating that their idea of a late payment fee is extortionate and it's gonna cost them nothing to process the early cheque.

It's not a late payment fee - it's an extra charge for paying by any other means than their preferred way, which I believe is direct debit or monthly payment plan.

When BT announced this scheme I wrote to Trading Standards to question the legality, they wrote back to tell me that there was nothing illegal about BT's intentions, although ethically questionable.

The fact is that this sort of customer diplomacy from BT will merely harden the resolve of large numbers of their customers to spend as little as possible with BT and look elsewhere where possible . *******.
I wrote to BT objecting to the charge. they wrote back to me saying it was their prefered method of payment, so basicly, tough sh*t.
I thought their attitude obnoxious, and I intend to move my phone line to another provider, and I hope lots of other people do the same.
You owe BT this money. Remember you have a choice. Either, pay by DD (which is actually cheaper for you anyway), move your account to another supplier, or pay the extra. If you can't even work out what it's for, then I don't fancy your chances of succeeding in a battle with them.
just got my 1st Monthly Bill with a £1.89 Payment processing fee Added, Telephoned British Telecom, eventually ended up speaking to some one in the World, was told i can go back on quartley Billing but the processing fee would be £5.67 for the same processing, hows that work, any why this is what im gonna do, just got a B T Payment card and put £20 quid on it, my bill this month is £28.81, im gonna send them a cheque for £8.81, this will not avoid the £1.89 charge, but by using the Auto Payment card and sending a cheque as well would possibly make them and there systems work for there £1.89 charge, so im gonna stay on Monthly Bill.So they get this every month .
