had the same problem only last week.did a virus scan in safe mode and found a trojan which agv got rid of.then scanned with adaware and got rid of 30 items of spyware and all has been ok since.


also i had a habit of going to shut down without login out first but not sure if that would affect it or not.

Thanks for the reply but in the meantime I tried something else which seems to have worked. Go into control panel/system/hardware/device amnager/universal serial bus controlers/us root hub/properties/power management and untick allow box(no boxes ticked). I have done about twenty reboots and success every time.

My problem was with windows xp pro SP2.
